Former Sydney’s Closet design intern, Ai Nguyen, recently took part in a Project Runway-esque design contest held by St. Louis Post Dispatch. Nguyen, a recent graduate of the Washington University School of Design, redesigned a decade-old mother-of-the-bride dress and made it modern and fashionable. The Prom Queen from Connecticut, president of her senior class, wanted to skip Prom 2008 after a fashion diaster last year. “I looked like a big hot mess,” she said. This year she went shopping with her Dad but found nothing to flatter her curves. “I love my legs but I wanted to hide the stretch marks on my arms.” When Tyra asked her what she thought of Sydney’s Closet dress, she smiled: “It’s beautiful”.
