Breaking the Stereotype with Amanda LaCount

If you're like us, you love wearing trendy plus size dresses that look and feel glamorous! Recently, Sydney's Closet got to partner with PromGirl and MEGA dance star, Amanda Count, featuring some of our favorite plus size prom dresses! It was an absolute treat to see Amanda Count model and dance in some of our favorite pieces! Not to mention, Amanda is one of our favorites when it comes to the plus size movement. Not only can she dance, she is amazing at spreading the message of acceptance and being body positive.

We were dying to ask Amanda a few questions about her style and what inspires her! Below is a Q&A with our Sydney's Closet team and Amanda LaCount!

1. What got you into dancing?

I started dancing at the age of 2 because my two older sisters were dancers. I watched them dancing on stage at the recitals and I wanted to be up there performing too.

2. Who inspires you?

One person that really inspires me is Meghan Trainor. She is true to herself and I like the way her family and fiance are always around her, supporting her. Someday I hope to be able to dance on tour with her.

3. Tell us about the #breakingthestereotype movement.

I created the hashtag #breakingthestereotype because all my life I was told by peers, parents, dance teachers, choreographers, and even strangers that I was too fat to be a dancer. I want to show people that any "body" can be a dancer if they work hard and dance from their heart. My passion is dancing, but my goal is to inspire others to follow their dreams and not worry about what other people may say or think.

4. What are your plans for the future?

I graduated with honors last spring from Champs Charter High School of Performing Arts. Now I am focusing on my professional dancing, choreographing, and acting career. Later I hope to open my own dance studio and attend college and major in Psychology.

5. What's your favorite dress from the photo shoot?

My favorite dress from the photo shoot is the black one with gold leaves on the tulle (Make a Statement Dress).

We are so excited to see what the future holds for Amanda. She inspires so many of us to overcome our challenges ahead and is constantly breaking the stereotype.
