Photo Credit Disney[/caption]Jewel Moore, a curvy teen from Farmville, Va., wants Disney to get real by creating Plus Size Princesses. Home for a snow day, she crafted a petition titled "Every body is beautiful". Why?
"I made this petition because I'm a plus-size young woman, and I know many plus-size girls and women who struggle with confidence and need a positivie plus-size character in the media," she writes the big wigs at Disney. Jewel's efforts earn my support! (Show yours by signing her petition on Change.org.) But she also earns my empathy. I understand totally how she feels. I started Sydney's Closet because I couldn't find a plus size Prom dress for my daughter. There isn't another specialty apparel company, to my best knowledge, that caters exclusively to creating frocks that rock for plus size Prom Princesses. When I design, I also keep in mind that all plus size teens don't have the same Prom personality - just like Disney Princesses. There's always the girl with the fairy-tale dream of wearing a
ball gown. Think Cinderella. Except the Cinderella Disney promotes - in characters at theme parks and in animated movies - appears with an absurdly skinny body. Often her waist looks to be the size of a soda can lid. For Sydney's Closet photo shoots, I insist the drop-dead gorgeous plus size models who wear our Cinderella ball gowns wear a Size 16 or larger. At just age 16, Julie gets it - and she's only a junior in high school.
"Disney films are highly influential and wide-spread, and they impact the lives of many children, especially girls. It would be revolutionary for Disney to show support to a group of girls who are otherwise horrendously bullied by the media. It would make many young girls feel confident and worthy to see a strong character that looks like them," Julie writes on Change.org. [caption id="attachment_4241" align="aligncenter" width="304"]

Jewel's petition gains support every hour. As of this posting, she's gathered 25,360 and growing! Hopefully, that's enough to prompt the Disney creative team to design a plus size Princess that is gorgeous, powerful, smart and plus size! And if they need any inspiration, they need to look no further than Jewel who a smart, confident, creative and pretty real-life Princess. I want Jewel, and all the curvy teens like her, to know that she has a BFF at Sydney's Closet! My mission is to give plus size teens permission to be glamorous at any size. No one needs to stay home from the Prom because she can't find a gown that fits and flatters her curvy figure. I PROM-ise to personally help her find the dress of her dreams!
