Meet Glam Plus Size Model Jenn Purviance

Updated: October 16, 2020

What a blast doing a Prom dress shoot with her in L.A. Thanks so much Jenn for sitting down to do this fun - and fab - Q and A with Sydney's Closet.

Jenn Purviance modeling for Sydney's Closet Prom 2013

Q: How did you get started as a plus size model?
A: I was scouted by Torrid and won their model search in 2009. From there I slowly picked up more clients one by one and signed with an agency.

Q: What’s the one favorite item in your closet you’d never be persuaded to give away?
A: My UGG boots! I know a lot of people think they are a fashion" no no". But I can’t stay away from them. Comfort is everything! Especially after a long day in heels. :)

Q: If you could spend an hour with any celebrity, who would it be?
A: Definitely Melissa McCarthy! She is my very favorite actress. Melissa seems like she would be real and so easy to get along with. I could certainly learn a thing or two from her about comedy!

Q: You never leave home without what in your bag (Sorry, the answer can’t be your phone!)?
A: My tube of Chapstick.

Q: When you want to dress to impress, what would you wear?
A: It has to be an Empire waist dress. It is my go to outfit that I know will always flatter my curves. It can be dressed up or down depending on the event. It is an all around safe bet for my pear like body shape.

Q: If you wanted to stop traffic, what would you wear?
A: A fierce jumpsuit because it lengthens your body and gives off a very dramatic vibe. Since it isn’t the most common thing to wear, it is very eye catching. That said, the fit of a jumpsuit is key. If it doesn’t fit properly your sexy jumpsuit can easily turn into a fashion disaster.

Q: What fashion trend(s) are you obsessing over right now?
A: Long sleeve dresses, lace everything and pointy nails!

Q: What’s the best steal or deal you ever got clothes shopping?
A: I recently got a pair of leather boots from Nordstoms that were regularly $400 for $50! I am still giddy about it :)

Q: What is the charity of your choice?
A: Hands down, it has to be the Wounded Warrior Project. They are an amazing organization that reaches out to injured veterans when no one else will. They assist with the cost’s of rehabilitating our vet's while they adjust to living their new life with a disability. This foundation hits home for me and means so much to my heart. The help that we provide to such a foundation really shows the recipients that we the people are truly appreciative of their sacrifice- past and present.

Q: If you could live anywhere, where would home be for you?
A: I dream of living in a country setting, with minimal people around and on the beach. Oh, and the weather must be warm! Where this is, I have yet to discover.

Q: What is your dream date?
A: Dinner and drinks at a nice restaurant followed by some sort of outing. Maybe a visit to an art gallery or a museum, A hike, dancing or even the beach would be amazing.

Q: What’s your guilty food pleasure or secret snack?
A: Oh my. I have so many! But, my all time favorite is 240 Sweet’s vanilla bean salted caramel and chocolate chip marshmallows. They are to die for!! They are a splurge for me so I only order them a few times a year. I know you’re probably thinking, a marshmallow Jenn…really? That is what I once thought too. They are nothing like the ones you’d buy in a grocery store. These are hand spun from scratch, fresh and airy. Once you try them, you will be addicted, I promise.
