Oscars 2013 Best in Show

Oscars 2013 Best in Show

On a night that makes or breaks many actors' careers, the overall fashion tone for Oscars 2013 felt subdued. Golds, silvers and creams ruled the red carpet in muted tones with a hint of sparkle. Old Hollywood glam also made its appearance in a few spicier choices. I've selected a few highlights from one of the biggest fashion showdowns of the year.

White Night

Fresh and clean, white is always an elegant choice that pops on the Red Carpet. When choosing white it is important to pay special attention to the flow and cut of the dress. White is not half as forgiving as darker colors. Looks like these ladies know what they're doing...

Looking absolutely radiant, Queen Latifah hugged her curves beautifully in this white Badgley Mishka.

Charlize Therzon looked fresh and white hot with her new pixie cut wearing Christian Dior Haute Couture. Charlize’s train really added some ‘Va’ to her Vavoom.

The Golden Girls

Quintessential gold is a fashion winner on Oscar Night. This year was no exception. These goddesses shone in their glimmering gowns that complemented their skin tones flawlessly.

Catherine Zeta Jones looked regal in a gilded Zuhair Murad.

Renee Zelwegger really called attention to her buff bod in this body-skimming Caroline Herrera stunner.

Silver Sparklers

Silver and black made its traditional red carpet debut on the likes of beauties Nicole Kidman and new momma, Adele. Both looked lovely in their sparklers and proved that modest can also be modern.

Nicole Kidman looks dazzling in a L'wren Scott.

Adele shimmers in Bespoke.

Glam Gems

Old Hollywood was in full force as fitted sheaths, longer sleeve lengths and shoulder pads made their hopeful return to red carpet fashion.

Jane Fonda Mother of Timeless Beauty led the revolution as a ray of sunshine in her canary yellow, long sleeved, v-neck Versace.

Halle Barre followed glam in a black and silver Versace reminiscent of the Bond Girl days. Not everyone was ga-ga for Halle’s throwback, but it was a bold nod to Old Hollywood and it did not go unappreciated.

Color Represent

While muted hues ruled the night, there were some standout color contenders. Reese Witherspoon, Sally Field and Jennifer Aniston were a few bits of brightness in a sea of neutral.

Reese is wearing strapless Louis Vuitton. Calling attention to her shoulders and her glamorous makeup and hair. Reese looked divine, as always.

Jennifer always makes a red carpet hotter and this year’s was no exception in Valentino.

Wearing Pantone’s Color of the Year, Emerald Green, Viola Davis gets honorable mention in Vera Wang.

Nine-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis in Armani Junior looked absolutely adorable in her miniature ‘prom’ dress. Debatable whether she needed the matching shawl but sparkling flats were very age appropriate yet, still glam – even with her puppy purse!

Oscars 2013 was everything a fashionista looks for in the night. A feast for the eyes and Who knew?  Armani scales down to child sizes!
