When the One Simple Wish Foundation asked me to help find a plus size cocktail dress for a deserving teen in foster care, I didn't hesitate for a second. I love getting to wave my magic wand as a fashion fairy godmother! Let me share with you the story of Imani, a resilient, pretty and talented young woman whose wish to model on a runway came true. After five years in foster care, Imani is searching for a forever family to love and support her. Her biological parents rights have been terminated by the courts. While waiting for an adoption placement, she lives in a residential facility. She still gets to see her biological siblings. But not as often as she would like. Phone calls and social media keep them connected. Imani adores doing all things girly like playing with make-up and trying new. When it comes to fashion, Imani is a natural at being a talented stylist who can take a simple dress for a cocktail or holiday party and almost magically pair it with the perfect earrings, necklace, bracelet, evening shoes and purse. At school, math ranks as her favorite subject. Outside of class, she spends time with girlfriends dancing and singing. I'm so thrilled that my friend Alexandra Boos, founder of The Luminous Foundation & scout for TRUE Model Management, reached out to Sydney's Closet to donate a dress Imani could model at Women& Fashion Film Fest - Girls Empowerment Fashion Runway event in the Big Apple. When I learned of Imani's passion for fashion and dressing up, I knew right away Sydney's Closet "Glitter Goddess" cocktail dress would be a frock that she could rock for her runway debut. She looks like a Hollywood (or Broadway star in the sequin one-shoulder design. Loving how the glittering sequins in a diagonal pattern show off her great curves. Silver high heels, selected by fashion curator Catherine Schuller from Runway the Real Way, created a real glam look from head-to-toe. See for youself. Just look at the photographs taken of Imani. She looks gorgeous and ever so happy! Imani did get her Runway wish, but what she really needs is a loving and kind family. To learn more about Imani and how you can help her go to Ultimatewish.org
