Plus Size Evening Dresses: Color Cues from 2014 Tony Awards

tn-500_2011tonylogoWant to look as glam as Broadway stars when you wear plus size evening dresses for your red-carpet moments?  It's easy!  Just take the color cue from what the celebs wore on the 2014 Tony Awards last night at Radio City Music Hall. And be ready to earn applause as you make a grand entrance at your special event.   (Wish we could spot more plus size red carpet dresses at awards ceremonies but unfortunately stick-thin actresses appear to dominate.)   Take a Blue Cue: Leave it to Tina Fey to look stunning and ever so sophisticated in an Oscar de la Renta evening gown.  The deep navy design with metallic thread adds color excitement without loudness. You can get the same effect when you wear our new Sabrina formal, Sydney's Closet style SC4023.  I designed the plus size Mother of the Bride dress with sleeves in chiffon with a matching metallic thread that isn't a brassy gold. It's much more understated.  The color is classic and can worn year round to weddings and other special occasion. elegance when you wear this lovely long formal gown. Customers are loving the skirt's soft flowing asymmetric tiers. TinayFeySC4023 I also used a similar, but slightly brighter tone of the same Sapphire blue, when I designed the Olivia dress, Style SC4015.  It's a fave of customers looking for plus size dresses with sleeves.  It's very close to the cobalt color of the evening pants suit Rosie O'Donnell wore on stage when she accepted the 2014 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award for her work with Rosie’s Theater Kids as well as delivering theater to New York City children. Teal to Steal the Scene:  Fantasia Barrino looked amazingly refreshing and vibrant in a curve-hugging teal evening gown that worked her fabulous curves.  Loved the subtle shimmer of the fabric under the lights. A perfectly tasteful  choice for a night as glam as the Tony Awards. Teal in any shade always makes me feel so happy and ready to celebrate.  That's way I designed a plus size Prom dress  (TE1468,) in a light teal that came close to being an aqua.  Teens love the freshness of the color for Spring!  This strapless chiffon formal with beaded bodice debuted as part of our new Tease Prom Collection that is sold only in fine stores.  (Sorry, no Internet sales!) FantastiaTE1468   Coral isn't for the Chorus Leave it to "The Nanny", aka Fran Drescher, to break up the fashion boredom by wearing a tulle fit and flair gown in shades of orange that ranged from coral to peach.  The 56-year-old actress  showed off her fabulous figure in a color that screams hot.

I tend to shy away from designing too many orange dresses because our customers tend to favor darker colors. But I'm tempted to create more in that color palette after the huge success of SC7075. We named the sexy chiffon formal dress with beaded straps "Miami Sunrise".  I can just see someone dancing till dawn on South Beach in that style!

Black is Back on Stage:

New Yorkers love affairs with little black dresses in all lengths  is legendary.   Something they get adventurous and stray into other dark colors like brown or gray, but black rules.  So it's no surprise that color dominated the red carpet at this year's Tony Awards. Patty LaBelle stole the show in a black dramatic evening gown with matching jacket.   The silver and black sequins sewn on the satin created just the right amount of sparkle. I designed a similar color combination for our "Always Remembered" dress, style SC4013.   The black dress with a slimming waist treatment in slate has proven to be a bestseller.  We re-ordered it several times and again, it's almost sold out.   The few remaining pieces in limited sizes  are on sale if you shopping for  cheap plus size formal dresses.
